Gynaecomastia or 'Male Breast' is the presence of glands in male chest area (in women such glands produce milk for breast feeding of baby after pregnancy). In the chest area some resistant fat may also get deposited giving the appearance of a female like breast.
Male Breast results from an imbalance between androgen (male hormone) and oestrogen (female hormone) activity. The hormonal imbalance that results in the deposition of glands in the chest areas is usually temporary and commonly occurs in boys at the time of puberty (14 yrs - 18yrs). Once the glands are laid down in the chest area, they do not regress. Male Breast does not develop due to obesity (becoming fat). That is why it cannot be treated by diet control or exercise. The procedure is done under general anesthesia and is similar to breast reduction in females. The procedure usually takes about two hours and the patient is discharged from the hospital the same day or an overnight stay is required at the hospital. The type of procedure used depends on the degree of breast enlargement. The options include removal of the tissue under the breast, or liposuction of the chest wall. In both instances, a small elliptical incision is made on the lower half of the nipple area (areola). For those men with tissue that is more glandular in nature, all breast tissue directly under the nipple is removed.
If the tissue is more fatty in nature, liposuction can provide excellent results. In some people, ultrasonic assisted liposuction is an excellent approach.
Improved Results
