What Are Hemorrhoids ?
A precise definition of hemorrhoids does not exist, but they can be described as masses or clumps ("cushions") of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels and the surrounding, supporting tissue made up of muscle and elastic fibers. The anal canal is the last four centimeters through which stool passes as it goes from the rectum to the outside world. The anus is the opening of the anal canal to the outside world.
Although most people think hemorrhoids are abnormal, they are present in everyone. It is only when the hemorrhoidal cushions enlarge that hemorrhoids can cause problems and be considered abnormal or a disease.
Causes Of Hemorrhoids
There were many researches about possible causes of hemorrhoids and some of them showed that this is a poly-etiological disease. There are several possible causes, which can provoke this condition.
They include:
- Genetic Predisposition
- Straining During Bowel Movements
- Too Much Pressure On The Rectal Veins Due To Poor Posture
- Constipation
- Chronic Diarrhea
- Poor Bathroom Habits
- Pregnancy,

Treatment Of Hemorrhoids
Prevention of hemorrhoids
Prevention includes several activities that can be performed easily. Some of those include:

- Laxatives Should Be Avoided
Temporary relief
There are several possible treatments that are being developed in order to temporary relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids or to cure the condition for good.
Temporary relief is offered to those patients with mild symptoms and temporary conditions that will probably heal spontaneously.
Some of the measures are:
- Warm Sitz Baths Using A Bidet,

- Topical Analgesic Medications

Usage of herbs and dietary supplements that strengthen the vein walls. Some of those supplements are butcher's broom, horse chestnut, bromelain and Japanese pagoda tree extracts. It is also proven that pure aloe juice can relieve some symptoms of hemorrhoids.
Eating diet rich in fibers can also relieve the symptoms. Food rich in plantain and Psyllium seed can help create soft stool that is easy to pass through the rectum, which will lessen the irritation of existing hemorrhoids.
Medical treatments
There are several surgical and non-surgical procedures, which will relieve the symptoms of chronic hemorrhoids.
Some of those are:
Hemorrhoidolysis: desiccation of the hemorrhoid using some electrical instruments. It is painless and highly effective.
Dilation : Relieving the hemorrhoids could be also done by stretching the anal sphincter muscle, but this method has several side effects, which made it very unpopular.
Rubber band ligation
Sclerotherapy: This treatment is done by injecting some hardening agent into hemorrhoids.
Cryosurgery: injection of medications which causes them to fall away
Laser, infrared or BICAP coagulation
Hemorrhoidectomy
Risks
As with other surgeries involving the use of a local anesthetic, risks associated with a hemorrhoidectomy include infection, bleeding, and an allergic reaction to the anesthetic. Risks that are specific to a hemorroidectomy include stenosis (narrowing) of the anus; recurrence of the hemorrhoid; fistula formation; and nonhealing wounds.
